ASSISI HOSTS EUROPEAN ENDURANCE CONTEST

The town of Assisi (Umbria region) is hosting the third edition of the International Equestrian Endurance Championship 2009, an event that tests the skill and stamina of riders and horses in a marathon of 160 kilometers, involving six different Umbrian municipalities.

A total of 150 horses from 26 countries are participating in the competition, including a high percentage of riders from the Persian Gulf nations, where this discipline is considered a national sport. The main event, the Meydan City Fei Open European championship, sponsored by Emirate Meydan city, is scheduled for the 24 th September 2009 in the town square of Assisi where teams will parade with their national flags in a medieval setting created by the historic re-enactment organization, Calendimaggio of Assisi.

The glittering assembly of participants includes seven royals and 15 sheiks and with the presence of the King of Bahrain and the Prime Minister and Vice- President of The United Arab Emirates. 

The 11-day event ends on the 27 th September 2009.
