BIT, the annual International tourism fair of Milan, which terminated on the 21 st February 2010)introduced two new departments in this years edition. Bit Itinera, a workshop dedicated to religious tourism made its debut. According to figures supplied by the World Trade Organization 300 million people around the world go on pilgrimages, generating a total revenue of 18 billion dollars. In Italy, religious tourism attracts all age groups, with the participation of 12,59% young people between 20 and 30 and 18.24% between 30 and 40 years of age.
The second novelty was Bit Sportland, with a 5,000 sqm outdoor area dedicated to sports and outdoor activities. 15 million Italians practise one or more sports, the most popular being cycling (including motor cycling) with 2 million two-wheeler fans and mountain climbing (700,000 adherents).
