FONTANELLATO BAMBOO MAZE

The enormous bamboo maze constructed by Franco Maria Ricci, well-known editor of the worlds most beautiful art books and the glossy art magazine FMR, has created a new form of art in his family residence near Parma, where he retired in 1994 after selling his publishing house.

Inspired by the Bambouseraie planted in 1856 near the French town of Anduze by Eugene Mazel, a wealthy importer of oriental spices, Riccis star-shaped labyrinth covers an area of 30 hectares dissected by 3 kilometres of paths and imitates the design of two ancient Roman mosaics. The maze contains the publishers library, built on the ruins of the former farmhouse which belonged to Riccis grandfather and encloses a central open space where concerts and events will be held.
