ROME: MACRO MAKES AN IMPACT

MACRO,  Romes Museum of Contemporary Art, is staging a highly successful show of controversial works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection in its new venue inside the converted premises of the former city slaughter house in the Testaccio district.

The PLUS ULTRA exhibition, a selection of major works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, spans thirty years of collecting. The creations of 38 artists are on show, including Damien Hirst, John Bock, Sarah Lucas, Tobias Rehberger, Jon Kessler, Diego Perrone and Polish artist Goshka Macuka, whose work has given the exhibition its name.

The Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation was founded in Turin in1995 by Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo. The Foundation aims to promote young artists and to bring contemporary art to the widest possible audience. The Foundation has two exhibition spaces: one in Turin and the other in the 18 th century Palazzo Re Rebaudengo in Guarene d'Alba (Cuneo). Great emphasis is placed on the education programme the offers adults and children activities, workshops, study sessions and lectures that run parallel to the main exhibitions, so that visitors can have better understanding of the works on show.

MACRO Testaccio is an extension of the main MACRO exhibition hall, which has attracted 50,000 visitors since the beginning of December 2010. The present cycle of exhibitions on view include works by world famous contemporary artists such as Bik Van der Pol, Mario Schifano, Antony Gormley and Nicola Carrino, as well as innovative creations by young artists.

Plus Ultra, Works from the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection is running until the  20 March 2011
