A rare exhibition of collective works of the Ghirlandaio family can be seen at a number of venues in Florence and the nearby town of Scandicci. The clan of gifted artists, comprising Domenico Ghirlandaio, his brothers David and Benedetto, half-brother Giovanbattista, brother-in-law Bastiano and son Ridolfo had one of the leading workshops of the Renaissance, where, among others, Michelangelo Buonarotti served an apprenticeship.
The exhibition, which includes gems from the Uffizi, has its main venue at the Castello dell'Acciaiolo, Scandicci, with 15 works of art on show. Other venues include the Badia di San Salvatore e San Lorenzo a Settimo, Scandicci, the Museum of Sacred Art of San Martino at Gangalandi, Lastra a Signa, the Museum of Sacred art at San Domenico, Campi Bisenzio, and, in Florence, the Museo degli Innocenti and the Palazzo Medici Riccardi.
A Family of Painters of the Renaissance between Florence and Scandicci (1449-1494) is open from Thurs to Sun between 10-13 and 15-19 (closed April 24 2011 of˝ national holiday).
