The ever-expanding Slow Food Movement has recently opened a new biodiversità centre in the Alberese regional park in the heart of the traditional farming area of the Maremma.
The new centre, which opened on the 3 July 2011, organizes meetings, events, tastings and conferences centred on projects aimed at protecting food biodiversity. There will also be fun activities to attract casual tourists and families, such as horseback excursions, boat trips on the Ombrone River and exhibitions by the skilful Italian butteri the cowboys who once beat Buffalo Bill in a rodeo competition.
The Alberese farmland extends over 4600 hectares, including 100 hectares of pine woods and 2000 hectares unspoiled forest. There are 50 vineyards producing, among others, the prestigious DOC Morellino di Scansano wine, as well as 300 olive groves and extensive areas of pasture.
