560 kms of medieval pilgrim routes covering the territories of Florence, Arezzo and Siena have been documented online.The 6 ancient Vie Romee wend their way over hills and valleys , passing little known castles and historic villages, leading to monasteries, old inns and monuments far from the traditional tourist routes. The initiative, financed with the support of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio Firenze, a leading Florentine bank, the website will give tourists the opportunity to plan walking itineraries thrugh their home computer.
The Ente Cassa di Risparmio Firenze is also financing a series of signposts and indications along the routes and a guide book in Italian, written by historian Renato Stopani, on sale at the price of 14.
