An Etruscan Eveningť at the Cento Corvi winery, Cerveteri, near Rome, on the 22 October 2011, marked the foundation of an Etruria Delegation of the Italian Association of Sommeliers (AIS). Presided over by AIS Rome President Franco M. Ricci, and a group of leading Italian wine experts and sommeliers, a buffet of local gastronomic specialities was followed by a mini vertical wine tasting of Giacche, the newest Cento Corvi wine, produced from native giacche˝ grapes. Cento Corvi owners, the Collacciani family, recovered this ancient vine from a few abandoned plants in their territory and redeveloped it to produce the award-winning and distinctive ruby red, full-bodied Giacchè Rosso, as well as Passito dessert wine.
The Cento Corvi (Hundred Crows) winery gets its curious name from a 15 th century manor house built by the aristocratic Orsini family and is situated near the celebrated Etruscan necropolis of Cerveteri, a listed World Heritage site. The ancient Etruscans have been the inspiration for the names of other Cento Corvi wines, such as Kantharos (White and Red), Kottabos (White and Red) and Zilath (White and Red). The winery also produces Malvasia, Trebbiano and a Rosè˝.
