No-one knows when Vesuvius, Italy's most dangerous slumbering volcano, may awake, but the Italian civil protection agency is taking no chances. The area considered potentially at risk from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the Gulf of Naples has been extended to cover 24 municipalities instead of the previous 18, as well as Naples suburbs San Giovanni a Teducci, Barra and Ponticelli, with a total population of 800,000 people.
