The islands of Lampedusa and Linosa have launched a special website dedicated to winter tourism to the islands, giving details of special offers on flights, ferries and accommodation.
Lampedusa, which has heroically coped for the past few years with the massive arrival of refugees from nearby north Africa, is concerned that its image as a peaceful and idyllic holiday resort has been distorted and hopes to revive its traditional image with a strong winter campaign to encourage leisure visitors between November and March. The local climate is generally warm, sunny and dry throughout these months. Cultural itineraries are also on offing where visitors can explore the unique monuments and features of this Mediterranean crossroads.
The islands are connected by flights from Sicily operated by both Alitalia and Ryanair, as well as local car ferry company Sansovino, while a ferry runs between Lampedusa and its neighbouring island Linosa.
