Interest was aroused in archaeology circles at the recent Milan International Tourism Fair (BIT), with the announcement that a prize for archaeological finds was to be presented at the XVIII Borsa Mediterranea del Turismo Archeologica (Mediterranean Fair of Archaeological Tourism) programmed between the 29th October-1st November 2015 at Paestum (Campania).
The Archaeological Discovery International Award is sponsored by the Borsa and the Italian archaeological magazine Acheo (which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year), in collaboration with international specialist magazines Archaeology Magazine (USA), Current Archaeology (UK), Antike Welt (Germany), Dossiers d'Archologie (France) and Archaologue der Schweiz (Switzerland).
An additional special award will be given to the archaeological find that has attracted most attention from the public through the Borsa Facebook page between the 1st April-31st July.
According to the Borsa Director, Ugo Picarelli, 2015 will be an extremely important year for the Paestum Archaeology Park, which has been inserted in the list of 20 sites of national importance by the Italian Ministry of Heritage. The initiative is intended to increase public awareness of the importance of the chosen sites and boost tourism visits.
