"The Art that Protects, Contemporary and Sacred Painting" is the title of an exhibition currently showing at Ascoli Piceno (Marche) until the 13 January 2019 at the Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo. Highlighting contemporary works of sacred art commissioned by religious institutions, it aims to give an insight into devotional works of today, as well as other art works inspired by religious themes.
The exhibition shows the works of thirty-two contemporary artists born between 1935 and 1985 and include reinterpretations of "The Road of the Saint" by Stefano Di Stasio, in which St. Francis and his wolf are portrayed against a lowering metropolitan background, and various Nativity scenes and interpretations of the figure of the Madonna, like the surrealistic "Regina Pacis Mundi Spes" by Giuliano Guatta.
Some of the works have been created especially for the exhibition and are on show for the first time. Open every day. Free entrance.
