What better start to the spring than an alfresco meal under the olive trees? An after-Easter event which has acquired ever more popularity over the last twelve years is the picnic in the Fascia Olivata olive plantations at Trevi, major producer of extra virgin olive oil.
The event, known as Pic&Nic, Art, Music and Food, takes place on the 27-28 April 2019 and is aimed at families.
The lunchtime and afternoon picnics are prepared exclusively with local products and pre-packed in red and white checked boxes, with special packed lunches for children. Entertainment includes a selection of concerts in the park or the old town centre, a farmer's and an antique market, courses on how to prune olive trees, wild flower and edible herb hunts, as well as walks, bicycle runs and searching for truffles with local experts and their dogs. Meanwhile, the nearby 16th century Villa Fabri holds the 7th Artigianinnovatori (Innovative Crafts fair) in its frescoed salons.
Palazzo Lucarini Contemporary, instead, offers a complete contrast with the singular "Millenium Worm" exhibition hosting the works of Russian artist Petr Davydtchenko, made entirely out of discarded waste materials.
The Fascia Olivata Assisi-Spoleto, of which Trevi is part, is one of Umbria's most important areas of olive production, recently listed in the Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) of the United Nations World Food Programme (FAO).
