The Transiberiana d'Italia, a historic rail route that wends through some of central Italy's most spectacular scenery in the territories of the National Park of Abruzzo and Molise has programmed 22 vintage train rides for 2020. The trains leave from Sulmona and follow old traditional tracks that carry passengers to a height of over 1,680 meters asl. at celebrated ski resorts like Rivisondoli. Other stations of call include Castel di Sangro, San Pietro Avellana, Pescocostanza, Roccaraso, Barrea, Carovilli Carpinone and Isernia. Passengers can enjoy the trip on traditional wooden seats in vintage carriages like the Centoporte and Corbellini, built in the 1920s. Many of the trains have guides on board describing the places of interest and the towns on the itinerary, as well as musicians playing typical folk music. Until the 22 December 2019, special excursions that include visits to the Christmas markets in some of the towns on route will be operating on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
