A recent analysis of the rural tourism phenomenon demonstrates that internet is the most popular means used to book country breaks and holidays. 89% of those interviewed, in fact, declared they relied on the web for their choice of rural retreat. 65% booked through Email. Only 5% went through a travel agency. One in four booked at the last minute, less than a week from their departure date.
The typical Italian client who chose a rural holiday was aged between 35 and 44, indicating that young families tended to choose this solution. 73% of all Italian tourists declared that they had scaled down their holiday expenses due to the present financial crisis. Of these, 42% had opted for a cheaper type of holiday or had cut out many of the extras they normally indulged in while 30% had reduced the length of the holiday.
