The second edition of Italian Slow Food Day will be celebrated on the 26 May 2012, with 300 piazzas, markets, streets and gardens all over Italy displaying and selling local seasonal produce. In view of the UN Conference on sustainable development scheduled for the 20-22 June 2012, the theme of this year's event is The relationship between the food we eat every day and climatic changes.
Slow Food sets out to emphasize some absurd facts of the modern food industry, for example:
the food most of us eat often travels almost 2000 kms before it reaches our tables.
It takes 15,500 litres of water to produce a kilo of cattle meat.
75% of the alimentation in the world depends on 12 plant species and 5 animal species.
