The humble cork is the protagonist of the exhibition dedicated to the late James Irvine, the English furniture and industrial designer who collaborated with cork manufacturers Amorim Cork Italia to produce art objects for the company's innovative Materia Collection.The exhibition runs concurrently with the International Furniture Fair of Milan 2015.
The Amorim Cork Italia of Conegliano, Treviso, part of the global Amorim organization, is the leading cork producing company in Italy, reporting an increase in sales by +16% in 2014, compared with the previous year, with 440 million corks sold.
In recent years, the properties of cork as the ideal wine bottle companion have been amply recognized, and plastic corks have lost much of their initial popularity. However, cork is now finding many other uses in construction work, house decoration and fashion design objects, as well as in aerospatial and mecchanical components.
