Bologna's most famous gastronomic product, Mortadella ham, has a special celebration on the 24 October 2018. Mortadella can pride itself on being one of the first food products to be controlled and certified. On the 24 October 1661, in fact, Cardinal Farnese issued the edict setting out the required properties defining the genuine product, which would eventually, after a few centuries, result in today's IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta) certification.
proudly The Mortadella Consortium is celebrating the 357 anniversary of the historic edict identifying their ham and protecting it from imitations. The festivities will spark off in Piazza Maggiore, with the presentation of a sculpture honouring mortadella by the artist Nicola Zamboni and will continue in the FICO Eataly World, where the Mortadella Bologna IPG factory is situated, with tastings and a show.
In conclusion an auction of a street art work by Mr. Wany will be held as well as a bartering session.
All proceeds will go to the fund for those who have lost their homes in the Genoa Morandi Bridge disaster.
