Italy's oldest railway track is celebrating its 180th anniversary between the 3rd - 6th October 2019. Built by Ferdinand II Bourbon, the King of the Two Sicilies, and inaugurated in 1839, the train connected Naples, the capital, with the resort of Portici and the pasta-supplying area of Gragnano. It covered a total distance of 7.5 kilometers but was soon expanded and marked the beginning of the industrialization of Italy. The Fondazione FS Italiane, which preserves historic engines and old railroads as well as promoting heritage train journeys in various areas of the country, has organized a series of festivities and events centred round the recently restored National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa (Naples), which has a vast collection of historic engines, carriages and relative objects, with tours, musical and theatrical performances and children's events. Highlight will be concerts by the band of NATO and the band of the Carabinieri.
