COLOSSEUM BY MOONLIGHT @ 03 Sep 2010

For the first time in many years, two of Romes most famous monuments are to be open to the public at night.  The Amphitheatre Flavio, better known as the Colosseum, will be illuminated by a giant balloon floating over the arena, casting light and shadows over the towering tiers of walls, the corridors, arches, colonnades and the underground passages. The entrance fee to the unique spectacle of the Colosseum by moonlight includes a visit to the currently running exhibition Gladiatores.

The haunting ruins of the Baths of Caracalla, dating from 216 AD, is the second monument which will be open at night for conducted tours accompanied by archaeologists.

The night visits to both the Colosseum and the Baths of Caracalla are held every Saturday until the 2 October  and the 23 October, for the Colosseum and the Baths of Caracalla respectively.
