From the 18 th December 2010 to the 16 th January 2011, visitors to the town of Isola di Grado (Gorizia in Fruili Venezia Giulia) will be able to participate in free conducted tours round the island to see the exceptional display of 150 Christmas cribs, including many with a sea theme.

Other attractions during the Christmas period include free concerts of classical music, tastings of gastronomic specialities, street entertainment and visits to the local spa resort.

The highlight of the festive season, however, will be the Arrival of the Varvuole, the terrible sea witches who, according to legend, come to Grado on the night of Epiphany in crystal boats to steal away naughty children.

The town is promoting special hospitality packages for couples and families who want to attend the events.
