The famous Riace Bronzes, masterpieces of Hellenic art, have been mounted on special earthquake-proof bases, projected and developed by ENEA, the Italian Agency for New Technology, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development.
Laboratory tests subjected a copy of one of the statues , mounted on the new base, to a simulated earth tremor of over 7.4 in the Richter scale of˝ the equivalent of an earthquake that could strike Reggio Calabria, where the two bronzes are exhibited. The museum is also being restructured and will be inaugurated by Italy President, Giorgio Napolitano, in May 2011.
