The fishermen's village of Cetara on the Amalfi Coast holds its picturesque Lampara Festival on the night of the 18th July 2015. The lampare are the traditional fishing boats with lanterns that illuminate the dark sea and attract the fish for a practice that the local fishermen have been carrying on for centuries.
This year, visitors can accompany the fishing boats on their expeditions on the bay. Back in the port a feast of anchovies awaits with an accompanying background of folklore music. Cetara has entered the gourmet market recently with its colatura di alici, an anchovy oil used to season pasta and other dishes which they claim goes back to ancient Roman times.
