The prestigious American travel guide, Forbes has allotted Italian hotels the biggest number of stars in its European classification. The 31 leading Italian hotels chosen number: eight 5-stars, fifteen 4-stars, seven recommended and one 4-star spa hotel.
Rome came first in the list with four 5-stars: the Hassler, the Hotel de Russie, Hotel Eden and the I.K.Place Roma, followed by the five 4-star hotels: Baglioni Hotel Regina, the Gran Melià, Rome Cavalieri, The St. Regis and Villa Spalletti Trivelli. Florence came in second place with three 5-stars, followed by Milan with one 5-star.
In the total number of Forbes Star Rated hotels, Italy outclassed France although Paris continues to hold the lead in the number of 5-star awarded establishments, with nine listed.
