The Rocca di Arona, a spectacular park in the ruins of the ancient fortress overlooking Lake Maggiore, announces an exciting series of international events for the summer season., including opera in the amphitheatre among the rocks. The production of Aida on the 8th July 2016 in the natural hollow of the towering cliff promises to be an unforgettable experience.
The former fortress, birthplace of the saint Carlo Borromeo (mentioned by Manzoni in the Italian classic, I Promessi Sposi), was destroyed several times over the centuries in wars between rival families. It was finally wiped out by Napoleon's troops in 1800. In 2011, the local administration took over the area and, with the help of volunteers, transformed it into a park, complete with panoramic pathways, children's games and a botanical area. The park can be visited every day until the 15th October.
