According to the latest figures, Italy expects to close this year with a record increase of foreign visitors.  Over 126 million tourists will have chosen to visit the "Bel Paese" ("Beautiful Country") in 2018, with an average stay of 3.37 overnights  (totalling 216 million presences) and thus notching up an increase of +2.7% arrivals compared with the preceding year.

The areas which have benefitted most are: Veneto, Lazio, Lombardia and Trentino Alto Adige, but other regions such as Basilicata, Sardinia, Valle d'Aosta and Ligury are also making their mark and enjoying burgeoning popularity. In addition, relative newcomers as international holiday destinations like Marche, Calabria and Sardinia are registering the longest stays by foreign guests during 2018.

The trend has increased steadily over the years, with average increases of +4.6% arrivals and +3.45 stays since 2010.
