For most Italians the traditional crib wins over the Christmas Tree as the true symbol of Christmas and the exhibition of Nativity scenes at Govone, half way between Asti and Alba (Piedmont) is already drawing the crowds.
The exhibition, entitled "Gloria in Excelsis", runs until the 23 December 2018 in the Galleria Alfieri of the Royal Castle of Govone and recounts the story of the Christmas crib from the first Nativity enactment set up at Greccio by St. Francis of Assisi to examples of modern interpretations. It includes one of the most ancient depictions of the Virgin and Child, found in the Catacombs of Priscilla in Rome and takes visitors in a magical tour through the development of the Presepio over the ages, with its multitude of figurines, each one with a special significance.
Open Saturday and Sunday: 10.00-19.00
